Remains Found in Skagit River Identified as Missing Concrete Woman Krista Hunt
Two days after Krista Hunt was reported missing, her boyfriend shot himself at a Concrete bar. Weeks later, deputies found her remains in the Skagit River.

Krista Joy Hunt was 37 years old, from the small town of Concrete, Washington, and her mother knew she was in danger long before deputies found her remains along the Skagit River. According to a GoFundMe post her mother wrote after Hunt's February disappearance, the Skagit County Sheriff's Office had transported Hunt from Concrete to the Mount Vernon train station just two weeks before she vanished, where her mother picked her up. "The next day, I took her to the hospital," the mother wrote. "She was covered in bruises, both new and old, had been strangled, had two black eyes, and a broken leg. Doctors warned that if she was strangled again, she might not survive."
The Skagit County Coroner's Office confirmed on March 18, 2026, that human remains recovered by sheriff's deputies during a boat search of the Skagit River belonged to Hunt. Deputies had located the remains on March 12, near milepost 90 on State Route 20, just east of Concrete. Cause and manner of death remain under investigation.
Hunt was reported missing on February 1, 2026. Accounts of her last confirmed sighting place her around January 25 in Concrete, in the company of a man believed to be her boyfriend. According to reporting by Cascadia Daily, two days after Hunt was reported missing, that boyfriend reportedly shot himself at a bar in Concrete. He survived. He has not been charged in connection with her disappearance, and investigators have not confirmed whether he is a suspect.
KING 5 reported that Hunt was last seen in late January after walking away from a truck that had run out of gas, a detail that adds to the picture of an already precarious situation. Her mother publicly stated her belief that Hunt was in an abusive relationship, but as of the coroner's identification, investigators had not named any suspects and characterized the investigation as active.
KIRO 7 reached out to the Skagit County Sheriff's Office for comment on the mother's allegations of prior abuse; no response has been publicly reported.
