Suspect Arrested in Deadly Stabbing of Two Homeless People in Riverside
Cesar Aguirre rode an RTA bus from Perris into downtown Riverside and fatally stabbed two homeless residents in separate locations blocks apart.

Sometime after midnight on March 12, Cesar Aguirre boarded an RTA bus near his Perris home and rode it into Riverside, where he began walking downtown streets. What followed was a two-stop killing spree that left two people dead in the shadow of the Riverside Hall of Justice.
Police say Aguirre arrived on the bus in the area of 14th and Main streets, walked up Main to 12th, where he stabbed Richard Hinds, and then continued to Orange Street south of 12th, where he stabbed Corrina Segovia. According to Detective Steven Espinosa, Aguirre pulled a knife and stabbed Hinds several times, then walked away, leaving the homeless man bleeding to death. The suspect fled the area before police arrived.
Officers responded at approximately 2:28 a.m. to reports of an individual down near the intersection of 12th Street and Main Street in downtown Riverside. They also found a second person a short distance away on Orange Street, just south of 12th Street. Personnel from the Riverside Fire Department pronounced both individuals deceased at the scene. The victims were later identified as 54-year-old Richard Hinds and 57-year-old Corrina Segovia. Investigators determined the stabbings were unprovoked. Both Hinds and Segovia were identified as local homeless residents known to frequent the downtown Riverside area. Espinosa noted that investigators believe the attacks actually occurred hours before the bodies were discovered at 2:30 a.m.
After nearly a week of investigation, Robbery-Homicide Unit detectives identified the suspect as 28-year-old Perris resident Cesar Aguirre. It was unclear how detectives connected Aguirre to the crimes; Espinosa said they did review surveillance images. Aguirre was charged with two counts of murder on March 18, 2026. Beyond the murder counts, prosecutors also added special circumstance allegations of targeting multiple people in a deadly crime and lying in wait, along with sentence-enhancing allegations of using a deadly weapon in the commission of a felony. Aguirre made his initial court appearance before Riverside County Superior Court Judge Jay Kiel, who appointed him a public defender and scheduled his arraignment for April 2 at the Riverside Hall of Justice. Court records indicate he carries an unspecified prior felony conviction. He was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center and is being held on $2 million bail.
Riverside Police Chief Larry Gonzalez did not mince words in his statement following the arrest. "We praise the expeditious actions of all involved in this investigation. Specifically, our Robbery-Homicide Unit for working around the clock to bring this violent and dangerous predator to justice, protecting our vulnerable homeless community," Gonzalez said. Espinosa added that officers are continuing the extra patrols that began in the downtown area after the attack.
A motive for the murders remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Mike Smith at 951-353-7103 or MikeSmith@RiversideCA.gov.
