Wife Testifies Husband Attacked Her with Rock, Syringe on Oahu Trail
Arielle Konig testified her anesthesiologist husband told her "Nobody's coming to save you" before beating her with a rock and attempting a syringe injection on an Oahu cliff trail.

A Honolulu courtroom heard Arielle Konig describe how her husband, former Maui anesthesiologist Gerhardt Konig, allegedly told her "Nobody's coming to save you" before striking her head with a rock and attempting to inject her with a syringe on a narrow ridgeline trail on Oahu.
The alleged attack unfolded on March 24, 2025, when Arielle, a nuclear engineer, says she and Gerhardt were hiking the Pali Puka trail at the Pali Lookout for what was framed as a birthday hike. That trail, a narrow, high-elevation ridgeline, meant that any shove toward the edge carried potentially fatal consequences well beyond the rock itself.
According to her testimony, Gerhardt pushed her toward a cliff, struck her head repeatedly, then produced a syringe in an apparent attempt to inject her. The assault only ended when other hikers on the trail intervened.
Prosecutors introduced a bloodstained rock as physical evidence and showed jurors bodycam footage alongside additional forensic material presented in earlier portions of the trial. The prosecution has framed the incident as a deliberately planned attack, pointing to what it describes as a pattern of behavior in the lead-up to the hike and to the presence of both a rock and a syringe at a remote location.
Gerhardt Konig has pleaded not guilty to charges including second-degree attempted murder and assault. His defense team has challenged the prosecution's narrative and questioned witness credibility. Before trial began, defense attorneys sought to exclude certain emails and communications from evidence, a contested pretrial motion that drew local media attention.
Gerhardt's former role as an anesthesiologist has become a focal point for observers and legal analysts, particularly in interpreting the alleged syringe component of the attack. The specialty carries both deep patient trust and specialized knowledge of sedation and injection technique, a juxtaposition that has amplified public interest in the case since charges were filed.
The trial continued through late March 2026 with additional witness testimony and evidentiary rulings pending. Whether prosecutors can convince jurors that the birthday hike was premeditated rather than a spontaneous confrontation will ultimately determine whether Gerhardt faces conviction on the most serious second-degree attempted murder count.
