Wisconsin Woman Charged in Oak Brook Terrace Murder of Obaidulla F. Shareef
A 19-year-old Milwaukee woman has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder in the Oak Brook Terrace shooting that killed Obaidulla F. Shareef.

DuPage County prosecutors announced that 19-year-old Akrystal Woods of Milwaukee has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of Obaidulla F. Shareef. Authorities said the arrest and charges follow an investigation into a Feb. 4 shooting in Oak Brook Terrace.
Police responded to a report of a car crash in the parking lot of 2 Trans Am Plaza Drive and found a man inside a vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds; he was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said officers arrived shortly after 6 p.m. that Wednesday. Officials have identified the victim as Obaidulla F. Shareef; no age for the victim has been released.
Woods was located and arrested in Milwaukee the next day and is in custody in Wisconsin while awaiting extradition back to DuPage County. Prosecutors said she will be returned to Illinois to face prosecution. Woods’ next court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday in Milwaukee, according to court scheduling information released by authorities.
DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Oak Brook Terrace Chief of Police Casey Calvello publicly announced the charges on Feb. 9. Berlin stressed that attempting to leave the state would not shield a defendant from prosecution: “Fleeing to another state does not take a defendant out of the reach of law enforcement.” He also praised interagency coordination: “Thanks to the truly outstanding work of the Oak Brook Terrace Police Department in coordination with DuPage MERIT and the Milwaukee Police Department, Ms. Woods was quickly identified and taken into custody and will be returned to DuPage County where she will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
Investigators credited the Oak Brook Terrace Police Department, DuPage MERIT and the Milwaukee Police Department for the quick arrest. Beyond the identification of the victim and the charging of Woods, police and prosecutors have not released a motive, nor have they provided details about any relationship between Woods and Shareef. Officials have not disclosed Shareef’s age or further circumstances surrounding the shots fired.
For the community, this case underscores the role of interagency detective work and the extradition process when crimes cross state lines. Residents near Trans Am Plaza Drive who may have information, surveillance footage or questions about safety in local office parking lots can expect investigators to continue gathering evidence and for prosecutors to move the case through DuPage County courts after extradition. Expect initial hearings in Milwaukee to precede transfer to DuPage County for prosecution.
As the case progresses, officials say more details will come through court filings and formal statements. For now, the charges and the arrest close the immediate search for a suspect but leave key questions open about motive and the events that led to the deadly encounter at the Oak Brook Terrace parking lot.
