Polaris Supreme Scores Bluefin Tuna Limits on Season-Opening 3-Day Trip
Polaris Supreme ran bluefin limits all three days of its season-opening trip, then switched to yellowtail for a total haul of 103 fish in the 15-30 lb range.

The Polaris Supreme wrapped up the first 3-day trip of its 2026 season with daily limits of bluefin tuna on all three days, then pivoted to yellowtail fishing that Team Supreme called "equally as fun." The trip, reported around the March 14-15 weekend, set an early high-water mark for San Diego's long-range fleet before winter had fully loosened its grip.
"Can't ask for a much better start to the season," Team Supreme wrote in their fish report dated March 15. "We wrapped up our 3 Day limits of Bluefin Tuna for the group and switched gears to Yellowtail."
Most of the bluefin came in the 25-40 lb range, a size class that fishes well on both jigs and live bait. Once limits were secured, the crew turned attention to yellowtail: Team Supreme's morning count on March 15 stood at 90 fish in the 15-30 lb range, while a separate tally published the same day put the trip total at 103 yellowtail alongside 30 lingcod. The difference likely reflects a mid-morning snapshot versus a running final count, though Polaris Supreme has not confirmed which figure represents the completed trip total.
Captain Aliyar was named as the reporting source on the trip. The fish reports do not specify exact departure and return dates for the completed trip beyond the three-day duration and the weekend date context.
Both the crew and the aggregated fish reports pointed to the same gear note for anyone booked on upcoming departures: bring yoyo jigs in addition to standard bluefin jigging setups. "If you are on an upcoming trip, we advise having a few yoyo jigs with you in case we have the opportunity," Team Supreme wrote, a recommendation echoed word-for-word in the San Diego Fish Reports posting.
Spots remain open. Team Supreme confirmed their next two trips are a "definite run," and a 3-day trip departing Friday morning at 7AM has availability. Seaforth Landing, which hosts the offshore fish report at (619) 224-3383, also logged back-to-back Saturday bluefin limits for March 14, consistent with what the Polaris Supreme reported. For a San Diego long-range season that can take weeks to find its footing, three straight limit days out of the gate is the kind of start that fills boats fast.
