Battlefield 6 Season 2 Launches with Contaminated Map, Little Bird, 240+ Fixes

Season 2 for Battlefield 6 and free-to-play REDSEC kicked off Phase 1: Extreme Measures with a content drop that includes the new Contaminated map, the VL‑7 psychoactive smoke limited-time experience, the return of the AH‑6 Little Bird scout helicopter, three new weapons, two new gadgets, and a reported "240+ fixes." Electronic Arts and Battlefield Studios rolled the update out on Feb. 17 as a multi-phase season designed to reshape large-scale and REDSEC play.

EA set the Phase 1 launch for Feb. 17 at 4:00 a.m. PT / 12:00 p.m. UTC, with regional equivalents such as 7:00 a.m. ET, 1:00 p.m. CET, 9:00 p.m. JST, and 11:00 p.m. AEDT; players were advised the download would be available a few hours earlier for pre-load. The release materials state the Season 2 rollout spans three phases and that content will appear across both Battlefield 6 and REDSEC on the same schedule.

Contaminated is a new large-scale European mountainside map set around a once-owned NATO airbase on the mountainsides of Germany and a location called Fort Lyndon; EA describes it as a "large-scale map set in a once-vibrant forest now scarred by experimental weapons and heavy shelling." Contaminated supports all combat sizes, land vehicles, and helicopters and features dense green fog tied to the season's chemical warfare theme as Pax Armata attempts to reclaim the installation.

The season's headline gimmick is the VL‑7 limited-time experience, a psychoactive smoke mode built around hallucinogenic clouds. Gamespress copy on the mode says, "These smoke clouds blanket key areas of the map, disorienting players with immersive hallucinations and forcing squads to adapt in real time." EA product copy adds that VL‑7 "distort[s] the battlefield with its hallucinogenic effects," positioning the mode as a non-lethal but disruptive battlefield element.

Weapons and gadget additions arriving at launch are named in regional coverage: GRT‑GPS (a DMR), VRC‑2 (an assault rifle), and M121 A2 (a machine gun), plus two new counter tools listed as the 9K38 IGLA launcher and the HTI‑MK2 counter-item. EA and Gamespress broadly referenced "three new weapons" and "two new gadgets" in the official materials, while the Times of India supplied the explicit model names and classifications.

The AH‑6 Little Bird returns as a scout helicopter in both Battlefield 6 and REDSEC, cited repeatedly in EA materials as the "legendary AH‑6 Little Bird." Season 2 is split into three phases: Phase 1 Extreme Measures on Feb. 17, Phase 2 Nightfall listed to begin Mar. 17, and Phase 3 Hunter/Prey shown in sources with conflicting dates, one outlet lists Apr. 14 while another lists Apr. 17, even as EA materials confirm a roughly three-month, three-phase roadmap. Promotional assets include an official Season 2 gameplay trailer and press images attached to the launch announcement.

EA framed the update in punchy terms: "Lock and load; now is time to fight the fog of war."
