A single Best Buy affiliate email was enough to send Grand Theft Auto 6 frenzy back into orbit, with partners told a physical pre-order campaign could run from May 18 to May 21 and pay a 5% commission on sales they drive.

The message first surfaced when YouTuber Frogboyx1Gaming showed it during a livestream, and other Best Buy affiliates later said they had received the same communication. That detail matters because Best Buy’s creator and affiliate materials already say participants can earn commissions by promoting products and creating shareable links, making the email look less like random chatter and more like a real retail signal aimed at turning traffic into sales.

Still, a retail signal is not the same thing as a Rockstar Games announcement, and that gap is exactly where the speculation is coming from. A physical pre-order window would fit the way major publishers typically prepare stores, inventory and product pages before they pull the trigger on a big launch, but it also arrives in a vacuum around Rockstar’s own marketing cadence. That silence has made even small breadcrumbs look huge.

The timing sharpened the reaction. Take-Two Interactive is set to report fourth-quarter and fiscal 2026 results on Thursday, May 21, after market close, with the earnings conference call scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Eastern Time. For a franchise this big, a pre-order rollout and an investor call landing in the same week is enough to fuel a theory that Rockstar could be lining up another marketing beat, even if the email itself only points to retail activity.

Rockstar’s official GTA VI page says the game is now scheduled for May 26, 2026, after the company pushed it back in its May 2, 2025 delay statement and apologized for the later-than-expected date. Rockstar has already shown how aggressively it can market the game, releasing Trailer 1 on December 5, 2023 and Trailer 2 on May 6, 2025. Guinness World Records said the first trailer pulled 90,421,491 views in its first 24 hours, which helps explain why a Best Buy email can still feel like breaking news to a fanbase watching every move.

That is the GTA 6 reality check: one retail email can look like a countdown clock when Rockstar is this quiet, and the line between store logistics and a full-blown pre-order reveal gets thinner every time the community sees another breadcrumb.
