Darksiders Warmastered Edition gets surprise photo mode, motion aiming update

A remaster many players had written off as finished just became a better reason to boot it back up. Darksiders Warmastered Edition received a surprise PC update that adds photo mode, motion aiming support, improved Steam Input, a fixed reticule on low texture settings, revised controller glyph handling, and other bug fixes.

The practical changes are bigger than they first sound. THQ Nordic said the updated PC build came alongside the release of Darksiders Warmastered Edition on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series, and it now requires a 64-bit CPU while rendering through the Vulkan graphics API with Vulkan 1.3 support. For anyone revisiting the game on a modern rig, that means a cleaner path forward than the aging 2016 build many assumed was the end of the road.

Steam users who want the older setup still have an escape hatch. THQ Nordic said players can roll back to the prior 2016 version through a public beta branch named warmastered2016, which should matter to tinkerers, mod-conscious players, and anyone whose hardware or controller setup plays nicer with the legacy release. For screenshot hunters and returning fans, the new photo mode is the headline feature that gives the remaster a fresh hook nearly a decade after its last patch.

The timing also gives the update extra weight around the franchise itself. Embracer Group said on May 20, 2026, that it intends to spin off Fellowship Entertainment as a separately listed company on Nasdaq Stockholm in calendar year 2027, and Darksiders is among the properties that would sit under that umbrella. Fellowship Entertainment is slated to steward a broad catalog that also includes Dead Island, Kingdom Come Deliverance, Metro, Remnant, The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, and Tomb Raider, with illustrative FY 2025/26 net sales of SEK 4,393 million and 2,169 employees as of March 31, 2026.

That makes this patch feel like more than routine maintenance. Darksiders Warmastered Edition is suddenly a stronger reinstall for anyone who owns it, a more flexible option for controller-heavy PC players, and a small sign that old catalog games can still get meaningful attention when a publisher wants them visible again. It also lands as Darksiders 4 remains in the pipeline, with official materials describing it as a new third-person action-adventure on an apocalyptic version of Earth that continues where the original Darksiders left off.
