Hypixel Update 2 Enters Pre-release Testing, Overhauls Mining, WorldGen, Adds Necromancy Grimoire
Hypixel launched Update 2 into pre-release testing, overhauling mining and WorldGen and adding a Necromancy Grimoire that summons skeletal minions.

Hypixel moved its second major post-launch update into pre-release testing on January 22, and the update was slated to roll out to the live branch over the January 23-25 weekend. Update 2 reframes core progression systems rather than introducing a single new biome, and it touches gameplay, world generation, modding tools, cosmetics, and server performance.
The most visible addition is a Necromancy Grimoire, a magic item with a necromancy theme that can summon up to five skeletal minions for short durations. That addition gives caster builds new utility in combat and dungeon runs, and it changes combat pacing by providing temporary AI allies that can tank, harass, or draw aggro during fights.

Beneath the surface, mining and progression received a substantial rework. Pickaxe quality now governs mining speed more directly, and high-tier ores are gated behind tool tiers, Adamantite, for example, requires a higher-tier pickaxe to mine. The change moves progression away from mere RNG on node locations and toward deliberate tool upgrades and pickaxe crafting as a clear path to mid- and late-game resources.
WorldGen V2 overhauls underground ore distribution to increase ore density, but that density change applies only to newly generated chunks. Players who want to experience the new ore spread will need to explore new territory or generate new chunks rather than rely on existing mapped veins. The combination of pickaxe gating and richer new chunks alters early grind strategies and will reshuffle usual mining routes and server economies.
Content creators and modders will see improvements too: WorldGen tools and modding exposure have been enhanced to make it easier to create and iterate on custom content and maps. Cosmetic and customization updates include armor-visibility toggles and new face and mouth variants, letting players tweak appearance without sacrificing gear choices.
Update 2 also bundles a wide set of balance, UI, accessibility, audio, and server performance improvements. Developers framed this update as restructuring progression and preparing the project for faster follow-up content, so many of the changes are foundational rather than flashy.
For players, the practical takeaways are clear: if you want the new ore density, explore fresh chunks or start a new world; if you’re chasing Adamantite, prioritize upgrading pickaxes; and build experimentation with the Necromancy Grimoire into dungeon and boss strategies. Modders should inspect the new WorldGen exposure to start adapting or publishing content. Expect more patches sooner now that core systems have been reworked and the path for upcoming content is clearer.
