Hytale Update 3 Adds Animal Taming Just Four Weeks Into Early Access
Hypixel Studios' Update 3 adds an early animal taming system, tame certain friendly creatures with their favourite food, plus map markers, a fire spread system, and more four weeks into early access.

Hypixel Studios pushed Update 3 to Hytale early access, introducing a content-heavy patch whose headline feature is animal taming just four weeks into early access. The studio's patch notes state, “Added an early version of taming! Some of the friendlier animals you find in your adventures can now be tamed, provided you have their favourite food in hand.”
The taming system includes several player-facing behaviors laid out in the patch notes. “Tamed animals can be petted with an empty hand and fed once in a while - some of them can also be milked, sheared, or mounted,” the notes say, and Hytale added that tamed animals “won't run away from players (unless they're hit), and will occasionally greet them.” PC Gamer framed the feature as the patch’s main draw, writing, “The big ticket item in this update is, you guessed it, animal taming. It should be noted that it's an early version of taming… you can now make friends with certain animals using their favourite food.”
Update 3 also expands map and UI functionality for both players and server operators. Hytale confirms players can “Create custom markers anywhere on your map with customizable names, icons, and colors,” and those markers can be shared in multiplayer. The patch adds “New gameplay settings to toggle marker visibility on map and compass” and allows players to “Delete markers via the map context menu.” Hytale's new Anchor UI system supports server plugins and modders by enabling them to “add UI elements to client pages, such as the world map,” which Hytale says will “allow modders to insert into various predefined points as we add them.”
Environmental and combat systems saw systemic changes in Update 3. Dotesports summarized a technical addition as “Added a new fire spread system (fluid ticker) and the Goblin Flamethrower.” Hytale notes the flamethrower “can be used to unleash flames upon nearby foes,” and both Hytale and Dotesports mark the weapon and some fire tools as “Creative mode only for now” while the fluid ticker is tested across biomes and builds.

Farming and traversal received practical quality-of-life updates. Hytale added “Sickles, capable of harvesting multiple crops in a single swing,” and “Added random block ticking and the spreading of grass.” Climbing was “Updated, enabling side-stepping, dropping down, and rotating around ropes,” and PC Gamer praised the climbing overhaul alongside combat and customization tweaks, calling the sickle a convenience players will appreciate.
Editor and performance work focuses on creators and server hosts. Dotesports reports the Creative Hub has been renamed “Crossroads,” a new /layer command and paste tool improvements were added, and streaming changes mean “World map and chunk updates use dedicated streams, easing load.” Hytale also added localization options, saying, “Brazilian-Portuguese and Russian have been added as our first new in-game language options, kicking off the first phase of our localization efforts,” and that “Additional languages will be introduced in the coming weeks.”
PC Gamer noted studio growth alongside the patch, quoting the team line, “We're proud to say that several hires have come straight from the modding community.” With taming described as an early system and fire spread currently Creative-only, Update 3 sets immediate gameplay changes while signalling further depth and modder-facing tools to arrive in subsequent updates.
