PUBG Turns 9, Celebrates With Update 40.2, Map Changes, and New Events
Nine years in, PUBG's Update 40.2 brought Chicken Man to Rondo, handing out Lucky Eggs with a chance at a 9th Anniversary Ghillie Suit.

Nine years after its debut, PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS marked the milestone with Update 40.2, which rolled out on March 11, 2026 during a PC maintenance window in UTC. The update paired a full slate of anniversary-themed events with meaningful gameplay adjustments across Rondo, Vikendi, and multiple arcade modes.
The celebration lands most visibly on the Rondo map, where anniversary-themed pop-up stores, billboards, and other surprises now appear throughout the environment. The standout addition is Chicken Man, a special event character players may encounter while dropping in. Interacting with him rewards Lucky Eggs, which can contain weapons, Level 3 gear, or the limited 9th Anniversary Ghillie Suit. Anniversary-themed care packages have also been scattered across the battlegrounds, joined by celebratory drone shows visible across the map environment.
Vikendi received more structural attention. Item pools inside Secret Rooms have been expanded to include additional tactical equipment, giving squads more reason to contest those high-risk locations. Krafton also replaced certain locked doors with standard doors to improve accessibility during matches, a practical change that should reduce the friction of navigating the map mid-rotation.
Arcade modes saw targeted refinements as well. Team Deathmatch now features adjusted map selection probabilities based on player preferences, meaning the maps the community actually wants to play should appear more consistently. Intense Battle Royale received updated crate contents designed to improve combat pacing, though specific item changes were not detailed in the release.

PC players got an additional layer of content through an expanded UGC Alpha. The update introduces a Creator Information feature that lets creators define mode details including the mode name and creator attribution, a step toward better surfacing custom content within the game's ecosystem. New Subzero items were also added to the UGC Alpha alongside this feature.
Rounding out the anniversary package is a collaboration with ALLDAY PROJECT, described as a special track celebrating nine years of PUBG. Details on the song title or in-game implementation were not provided in the release, but the partnership marks the game's first music collaboration tied directly to an anniversary update.
With nine years of battle royale history behind it, Update 40.2 suggests Krafton is treating the anniversary as more than a cosmetic occasion, using the milestone to push forward on creator tools, map balance, and mode quality simultaneously.
