Capcom's Resident Evil: Requiem launched on February 27, 2026, and by the time Circana closed its February tracking window a day later, it had already claimed the top spot on every major U.S. platform chart. Circana Executive Director and video game industry analyst Mat Piscatella confirmed that Requiem "debuted as the best-selling video game of 2026 as overall spending in February grew slightly when compared to a year ago, reaching $4.6 billion."

The game was the best-selling title of the month on PlayStation, Xbox, and the aggregated PC storefront charts, with launch-week dollar sales running over 60% higher than Resident Evil Village and unit sales up over 40% higher, excluding bundled versions. That is a staggering margin against a game that was already a franchise high-water mark when it launched in 2021. With over 6 million copies sold globally already, Requiem is clearly a big win all-around for Capcom, and the company has called it the fastest-selling entry in the Resident Evil franchise's history.

On Nintendo's platform the picture was a little different. Mario Tennis Fever entered the overall chart at 11th, though that ranking is based on physical sales only, while God of War: Sons of Sparta landed at 14th and My Hero Academia: All's Justice came in at 17th. The Resident Evil Generation Pack, which bundles Resident Evil 7, Village, and Requiem, rounded out the top 20 at 20th place. On the Nintendo-specific chart, the Generation Pack actually outperformed standalone Requiem, landing at No. 4 versus the standalone version's No. 6, suggesting Nintendo fans had an appetite for the full franchise package rather than just the new entry. Dragon Quest VII: Reimagined debuted at 9th for the month, ranking 14th on the year-to-date chart.

On a year-to-date basis, Requiem leads the market, followed by NBA 2K26 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, with Madden NFL 26 and Minecraft rounding out the top five.

The broader February spending picture was less celebratory. Content spending for February 2026 came in at $4.016 billion, essentially flat compared to $4.030 billion in February 2025. Non-mobile subscription spending was a bright spot, growing 27% compared to a year ago, and that growth helped offset declines across other content segments, keeping the overall content spending figure from slipping into negative territory. Hardware was a different story: hardware spending increased by 22% compared to February 2025, and while the best-selling piece of hardware for the month was the PlayStation 5, it was Nintendo Switch 2 sales that kept hardware spending from declining.

DOOM: The Dark Ages also climbed significantly on PC storefront charts, rising to ninth following promotional pricing, a useful reminder that a well-timed sale can drag a title back into relevance months after its initial launch window closes.

One caveat worth noting: Circana's top 20 does not capture the full digital picture for every publisher. Nintendo, among others, does not share certain digital sales data with Circana's report, which means some rankings on the Nintendo chart reflect physical sales only and likely undercount actual consumer demand.

Requiem is unlikely to hold the top spot throughout the year, especially come November, but Monster Hunter Wilds was able to remain in the top five best-selling games in the U.S. for 2025 because of its strong launch. Requiem launched without Wilds' technical baggage and is already outpacing it on pure launch metrics, which gives the title a strong foundation for staying relevant deep into 2026's year-to-date rankings. For fans already through the main campaign, story DLC is reportedly in development, with the additional content allegedly focusing on Leon and allegedly featuring Ada Wong, conspicuously absent during the base game's events.
