Players will be able to try hundreds of free demos and chat with developers when Steam Next Fest: February 2026 launches, Steam’s store copy promises: “Play free demos of games that haven’t even launched yet! Explore upcoming titles of every genre, interact with the developers behind them, and wishlist your faves.” The festival runs “February 23 at 10:00 AM PDT (UTC-7) to March 2 at 10:00 AM PDT (UTC-7).”

Steam’s partner documentation sets the press preview for February 12 - “Press preview starts at 10am PDT.” It also lists developer lead-in deadlines: “February 9 - All required items must be submitted for review by this date in order for your game to be prepared for Steam Next Fest (if you haven’t completed them already for the Press Preview).” The doc adds “February 12 - Deadline to opt OUT of trailer permissions if you have previously opted in; doing so by this date ensures your trailer will NOT be included in official marketing materials.” For launch day actions it states developers must “set your demo live (or opt out if your plans have changed) before 10am PDT.”

The event format has been revised from past fests: Steamworks notes “There is no more official livestream.” It continues that “The developer livestream portion of the event has been shifted to an independent tab as always, livestreams are optional,” and warns that “The organization of the event is revamped from previous genre tabs, so the page may look different from before.” Steamworks also confirms the festival will conclude with a March 2 wrap-up highlighting “games with the most played demos of the Fest.”

Practical how-to details are simple: “All the demos during Steam Next Fest are free. All you need to do is sign into your Steam Account and click the green 'download' button on the game you wish to investigate store page,” GamesRadar writes, adding “There is no limit to the amount of demos you can play during the event” and noting the full game “probably won't be” free after release. Steam’s store lets users “sign up here to receive a reminder for when Steam Next Fest begins.”

Independent lists have already started surfacing demo highlights. SiX ONE iNDiE published “February 2026 Steam Next Fest Demos” by Kyle Stephenson; the page header shows “Feb 10” and “Updated: 2 days ago,” while the body explicitly states it “was updated on February 17th.” Entries include Nocturnal 2 - “Ignite your sword and explore the dark depths and towering heights of a forgotten island that consumed itself long ago” with a demo “designed to avoid any major lore spoilers,” Collector's Cove - “Demo available on February 23rd,” Trackastrophe! - “Trackastrophe! is a puzzle game where you guide an eccentric train through wacky worlds...” with “Demo available now,” Galactic Vault - “Build your weapon to its full potential in Galactic Vault...” with “Demo available now,” Treeplanter - “Create and enjoy a peaceful interactive woodland...” with “Demo available now,” The Day I Became A Bird - description and “Demo available now,” Swan Song - “Demo available on February 23rd,” and Windrose listed among the curated picks.

Gamingbible ran a pointed headline calling the event “Steam Drops Literally 1000s of Free Game Offerings Later This Month,” though Steam’s own materials and partners consistently describe the lineup as “hundreds” of demos. Related Steam programming this month includes PvP Fest and upcoming Horse Fest and Tower Defense Fest, and Gamingbible notes the Steam Spring Sale launches March 19, 2026. If you want a reminder, set one through Steam and plan to log in at 10:00 AM PDT on February 23 to start downloading demos.
