The Natural Diamond Council is promoting World Diamond Day on April 8 as a moment for industry unity and for jewelers to share the beauty and lore of natural diamonds with consumers. The initiative arrives with unusual philosophical precision: April was chosen because diamond is the month's birthstone, with the number 8 carrying symbolic weight across cultures. As World Diamond Heritage Board founding member Nicolas Chrétien explained, when the number 8 is turned sideways, it becomes the infinity symbol, "reflecting the idea that a diamond is forever." His rationale for the date is succinct: "There is no heritage without a date to remember. April 8 is that date."

World Diamond Day was conceived by the World Diamond Heritage Board, which transferred oversight of the occasion to the NDC. Chrétien, writing about the transition, characterized it as a deliberate act of industry service: "We are proud of our journey and of what has been achieved. World Diamond Day has now found its natural home under the leadership of its new CEO, Amber Pepper. Our decision to pass on World Diamond Day to the NDC is, above all, a gesture in service of the natural diamond industry." The groundwork was substantial: ten months of organizing produced supporters in 40 countries and an estimated 3.6 million potential followers, according to Chrétien's account of the WDHB's preparatory campaign.

Pepper, who took over as NDC CEO on February 1, 2026, brings experience in luxury brand transformation from senior positions at Tapestry, Farfetch, and Harrods, and most recently served as Chief Marketing and Customer Officer and Managing Director at luxury digital platform Mytheresa. On the significance of the occasion, she told JCK: "Now more than ever, the power of the natural diamond industry lies in its ability to come together with a unified voice." She framed the stakes in broader terms as well: "World Diamond Day represents a rare and meaningful moment, one that no other category can so authentically galvanize. In a time of global uncertainty, the values that natural diamonds embody — authenticity, human connection, and enduring meaning — resonate more deeply than ever."

The NDC is calling the inaugural April 8 event a "soft launch," treating it as a foundation for building industry-wide participation across manufacturing, processing, marketing, and retail. The initiative invites participants to promote natural diamonds by reflecting on meaningful moments and memories, from stories about engagements, anniversaries and heirlooms to posts on design, education, conservation and mine-to-market journeys. The NDC's own statement framed it as participatory rather than top-down: "This is an industry movement powered by your user-generated content. We invite you to amplify the impact and share your own natural diamond stories and imagery from across the diamond world."

The NDC has made a digital toolkit available on its website, providing optional assets and guidelines. The campaign page walks participants through a four-step process: download pre-sized assets for every platform, customize using a social asset tool that lets you upload a photo, adjust the composition, and select yellow or white text, then choose a square format for Instagram and LinkedIn or portrait for stories and Facebook, and post on April 8. The required hashtags are #WorldDiamondDay and #NaturalDiamonds, with Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, and TikTok as the primary recommended platforms. Assets downloaded from the NDC site are restricted to World Diamond Day social media use only.

World Diamond Day is intended to be celebrated annually on April 8, one fixed date when the global diamond community can pause, align, and celebrate natural diamonds together. For an industry navigating pressure from lab-grown alternatives and shifting consumer loyalties, the creation of a shared annual date is a bet that collective voice still carries weight where individual campaigns cannot reach.
