For anyone considering a marquise engagement ring, Josh Groban’s Disneyland proposal offered a sharp reminder of why the cut is back in conversation: it lengthens the look of the hand, can read larger than a round stone of the same carat weight, and brings instant drama without losing grace.

Groban announced the engagement on Instagram on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, after proposing to Natalie McQueen at Disneyland in the Snow White’s Wishing Well, also described as Snow White’s Grotto, in Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California. The photos moved from the grotto to the King Arthur Carrousel and Fantasyland, turning the proposal into a full sweep through the park’s most romantic scenery. Groban thanked Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings for helping with the logistics and called it “the best day of our lives (so far).”

The ring itself was the point of the story for jewelry eyes. Groban worked with Auroro fine jewelers on a custom marquise-cut diamond ring, finished with smaller diamonds on each side. McQueen called it “beyond beautiful,” and that side-stone treatment matters: flanking stones soften the marquise’s long silhouette and help the center diamond feel intentional rather than simply elongated. Auroro describes its work as handcrafted in Los Angeles, using recycled gold and vintage gemstones as often as possible, which gives the ring another layer of modern appeal beyond the silhouette alone.

The marquise’s return makes sense in a market that keeps circling back to shapes with personality. It flatters the finger by pulling the eye lengthwise, and it can deliver more face-up presence than many other cuts at the same carat weight. That perceived size advantage is part of the allure. So is the old-world glamour. A marquise does not whisper; it glides.

Still, the cut asks for care. Buyers should watch for the bow-tie effect, the dark band that can sit across the center of a marquise if the faceting is poorly balanced. In a strong stone, the bow tie is restrained. In a weak one, it becomes the first thing you see. The points also need protection, whether through V-shaped prongs, a low-profile setting or a design that keeps the tips from taking the brunt of daily wear. For a ring meant to be worn every day, those engineering choices matter as much as the sparkle.

Groban and McQueen had been together for about four years when they got engaged. Their relationship first surfaced on social media in September 2022, and they made it Instagram-official on Valentine’s Day 2023. In a September 2024 PEOPLE interview, Groban said they “really like to communicate” and make each other laugh constantly, a foundation that now sits beneath one of the most photographable proposals of the year. Michael Bublé, John Stamos and Sarah Michelle Gellar were among the celebrities who sent their congratulations, but the real star remains the ring: a marquise with enough line, light and protection to look beautiful long after the fireworks fade.
