A third man has been charged in the smash-and-grab robbery that shattered the front window of Gregory & Co, a long-running independent jeweller in Richmond, as detectives from the Metropolitan Police Flying Squad press ahead with a high-profile retail robbery investigation.

Deniz Mehmet, 28, of Purfleet Road, Aveley, was arrested on Wednesday, April 8 and charged the next day, Thursday, April 9, with conspiracy to commit robbery. He was due to appear at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on Friday, April 10.

The charge follows the January 31 attack at the Gregory & Co shop on Paved Court, just off Richmond Green. Police said officers were called at 10:34am after suspects smashed the store’s front window and stole “a number of items.” Investigators recovered a vehicle believed to have been used in the robbery and said it was being examined.

Footage and eyewitness accounts described two masked men in balaclavas, with one using a sledgehammer to break the glass while the other hurriedly scooped jewellery into a bag. The pair then ran along Paved Court toward Richmond Green, turning a quiet, boutique-lined stretch into the kind of brazen daytime scene that has become familiar to jewellers across London.

In an earlier police appeal, a Gregory & Co spokesperson called the incident “deeply upsetting,” saying the business was supporting the investigation. The spokesperson described the shop as a family jeweller that has served Richmond for more than 45 years and said the public response had been “overwhelming,” adding the team was looking forward to reopening.

Two other suspects, Robert Clarke, 50, of Lever Lane, Rochford, and Lee Ramsey, 46, of Hastingwood Road, Harlow, were arrested on Tuesday, March 31 and charged with conspiracy to commit robbery. They appeared at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on April 1, were remanded in custody, and are next due at Kingston Crown Court on Tuesday, April 28.

Police have not publicly itemized the jewellery taken or put a value on the haul. Detectives previously asked witnesses to call 101 quoting CAD 2478/31Jan, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously.
