Ashna Mehta’s Bag Bijoux wins Couture honor with convertible diamond jewel

Ashna Mehta’s Bag Bijoux took Best in Haute Couture at the 2026 COUTURE Design Awards in Las Vegas with Gilded Bloom Haute Bag Bijoux, a $2.1 million diamond flower clipped to a Birkin and built to move from handbag to body. The piece did not win on spectacle alone. It also signaled how far bag jewelry has pushed into the couture conversation, where a jewel can be carried, pinned, and worn as a pendant without losing its impact.

At the center of Gilded Bloom is a 36.89-carat natural fancy intense yellow cushion-cut diamond, framed by 6.65 carats total weight of surrounding diamonds. Kite-shaped stones fan around the center, while rose-cut petals soften the silhouette into a flower that reads as both ornament and miniature high-jewelry object. The design can be worn as a bag charm and converts into a pendant or brooch, a flexibility that gives the piece real utility beyond its headline price.

COUTURE’s Design Awards were presented at the Encore Theater and spread across 12 categories in 2026. The competition is judged from a museum-quality display by a panel that includes retailers, editors, and designers, which makes the win especially meaningful for a piece like Gilded Bloom: the award recognized the workmanship and visual language behind the jewel, not simply its value. The Couture Show describes the Design Awards as one of the highlights of the annual event, and Mehta’s entry stood out in a field built to reward exacting design.

Bag Bijoux itself launched in 2022, and the brand’s rise tracks with the larger shift toward decorative, collectible handbag hardware. Mehta and her sister Aria Mehta grew up in the diamond business as heirs to the Rosy Blue family, and her earlier work helped define the category with personalized charms and bag jewels. In June, Vogue Singapore traced Mehta’s path back to a basketball collection inspired by growing up in New York, then to the moment she began making pieces for herself and found that others wanted them too: “organically, I started making pieces for myself and other people started resonating with them.” Bag Bijoux has since drawn celebrity attention, including a custom charm for Kylie Jenner, and Gilded Bloom now sits at the sharpest edge of that momentum.
