North Adams Senior Kensley Mathias Excels in Cheerleading, Archery, Eyes Legal Career
North Adams senior Kensley Mathias cheers, competes in archery, and plans to pursue forensic law school after crowning her high school run with an Adams County Fair win.

Kensley Mathias has spent her four years at North Adams High School collecting two distinct athletic identities: cheerleader and archer. As she heads toward graduation, the senior, daughter of Sarah Bales, is carrying both disciplines into a future pointed squarely at forensic law.
Mathias lists cheerleading as her favorite of the two sports she competed in, and when asked what she values most about high school athletics, her answer was direct: "Making memories with my friends and winning." The flip side, she said, is "waking up early and conditioning."
Her most memorable moment from her prep career came at the Adams County Fair, where she won her final Fair competition. That victory stands as the capstone sports memory she'll take with her from North Adams.
Off the field and off the mat, Mathias keeps a roster of favorites that sketch a vivid portrait of a student with eclectic tastes. She watches Law and Order and counts Mean Girls as her favorite film, a pairing that lines up neatly with her academic preference: psychology is her favorite school subject. She listens to Cardi B, gravitates toward the Cheesecake Factory when dining out, and, given one day to trade places with anyone, would choose aviation pioneer Amelia Earhart. Italy tops her travel wish list.

When it comes to life after graduation, Mathias is specific: she plans to go to law school in forensic law. The goal reflects the same purposefulness that runs through her sports answers, connecting the discipline required in competition to a career field that demands precision and rigorous analysis.
Mathias was featured as part of The People's Defender's weekly senior profile series, which spotlights Adams County student-athletes each week to introduce graduating seniors to the broader community.
