Peebles Pulls Away in Rivalry Win, Community Shows Support
Peebles High School defeated North Adams 60 to 40 on December 9, handing the Indians their third straight double digit victory as an overflow crowd packed the gym. The result matters to Adams County because it renewed a long standing rivalry, highlighted strong youth participation, and underscored local questions about student athlete safety and equitable resources.

Peebles High School took control in the second half of a heated rivalry game Tuesday night, outscoring North Adams 33 to 16 after a three point halftime margin to finish with a 60 to 40 victory. The game, played before an overflow crowd representing both schools, was the only scheduled regular season meeting between the teams this year, and pushed Peebles to what the program described as its third straight double digit win to open the season.
The first half was tight, with North Adams leading by three at intermission. Peebles flipped the script in the second half with sustained defensive pressure and balanced scoring. Freshman Keegan Puckett led the Indians with 15 points and eight rebounds, while Paxton Ryan added 13 and Bo Johnson contributed 10. North Adams was paced by Jesse Kennedy with 14 points and Carson Davis with 13.
Box score by quarter presents the margin clearly. North Adams scored 12 12 10 6, finishing with 40. Peebles scored 10 17 16 17, finishing with 60. The late push sealed a 20 point win for the Indians and delighted their student section and supporters who packed gym seats beyond capacity.

Coach Josh Arey reflected on the performance, saying, "...It feels good to come out on top tonight," and, "...Our defensive pressure is a big part of our game and it worked for us tonight but we still have things to work on and get better."
Beyond the scoreboard, the game matters for Adams County communities. High turnout at school athletic events signals strong local engagement and contributes to school identity, but it also raises practical concerns about planning for large crowds at school sites. Local school leaders and public health officials must ensure adequate first aid coverage, functioning automated external defibrillators, clear concussion protocols, and access to mental health supports for student athletes and spectators alike. The rivalry also spotlights disparities that can exist between districts in funding for athletic trainers and facilities, a policy issue that affects safety and equal opportunity for youth sports across the county.

As the season continues, Peebles will carry momentum from the win while coaches and parents will watch for both performance improvements and the steps local institutions take to protect players and spectators. The game was a reminder that high school sports are athletic contests and community gatherings that intersect with public health and equity.
