SHAC to honor spring sports standouts at West Union High School

Adams County’s spring sports spotlight will settle on West Union High School Tuesday night, when the Southern Hills Athletic Conference recognizes softball, baseball and track standouts after a season that again put local programs near the top of the league picture.

The ceremony is set for West Union High School, 97 Dragon Lair Drive in West Union, with the awards unfolding in sequence at 6 p.m. for softball, 6:30 p.m. for baseball and 7 p.m. for track. The school’s athletic facilities, including the baseball, softball, soccer and track fields, are located at 320 Lloyd Road, making the campus a fitting backdrop for the conference’s spring showcase.

Track will carry the most obvious local storyline into the room. Fairfield won the 2026 Southern Hills Athletic Conference girls championship with 128 points, but West Union finished second with 110, a strong showing that kept the Lady Indians in the title conversation deep into the season. North Adams added another Adams County highlight by winning the boys championship, giving the county two teams with major track hardware from the spring.

The awards also fit a larger SHAC pattern of celebrating team and individual success by season and sport. The league previously honored the West Union girls cross-country team at its fall banquet after that group won the conference championship, reinforcing how often Adams County schools have been part of the league’s championship conversation. A separate all-conference softball ceremony was also held at Eastern Brown High School in May, showing that the SHAC uses more than one gathering to recognize the athletes and programs that shape each season.

Tuesday’s event will put those results in one place, with West Union hosting the spring honors that cap the conference calendar. For West Union and North Adams, the evening will serve as another public measure of programs that continue to produce conference-level results, even as Fairfield’s girls track title reminds the league how narrow the margin can be at the top.
