Southern State Community College offers public Professional Development series in Hillsboro
Southern State Community College announced a public professional development series at its Hillsboro campus to help residents gain workplace skills and certificates.

Southern State Community College has launched a public professional development series at its Central Campus in Hillsboro, offering one-day training modules designed to help residents build job skills and advance careers. The announcement, made Feb. 11, 2026, lays out a multi-month schedule of workshops running through December and emphasizes small class sizes and certificates of completion.
Sessions take place at the Central Campus, 100 Hobart Drive in Hillsboro, with most programs running from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and a registration cap of 25 participants to preserve an effective learning environment. Course topics include Customer Service; Leadership Essentials 101 and 102; Yellow Belt, delivered in two separate days; Legal Land Mines; Operational Excellence; White Belt; Root Cause; and DiSC. The college’s listings show repeated offerings across the year, including DiSC sessions on July 15, 2026, and Nov. 3, 2026, with sign-in at 7:30 a.m., program hours from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and a $475 fee for each DiSC session. Registration deadlines for those DiSC dates are July 8, 2026, and Oct. 27, 2026, respectively.
Amy McClellan, executive director of workforce development at Southern State, framed the series as part of the college’s broader community mission. “Offering these professional development courses will help Southern State continue its ongoing commitment to supporting the growth and success of individuals in our community,” McClellan said. “By providing accessible and high-quality learning experiences, we strive to contribute to the development of a skilled and competitive workforce.”
For Adams County residents, the program aims to strengthen connections between training and local labor needs. Small cohorts and single-day modules make it easier for workers to attend without extended time away from jobs or family responsibilities. Certificates issued at the end of each session can bolster resumes and support internal promotions or job searches. At the same time, variable costs and a $475 fee for DiSC point to potential affordability barriers for some residents; the limited class size means early registration will be important for those seeking a seat.
To register or learn more, prospective participants are asked to complete the college’s Professional Development Registration form or contact Amanda Lewis by phone at 800-628-7722, ext. 3520. Yellow Belt sessions are scheduled as two linked days - for example, April 22 and May 13 in the spring session and Sept. 24 and Oct. 22 in the fall session - so attendees should check whether both dates are required for certification.
This series represents a tangible step by Southern State to expand local training options and to help Adams County residents translate short-term learning into long-term economic opportunity; interested readers should register early and verify course costs and prerequisites before enrolling.
