SR 41 closure begins July 22 in Adams County, delays expected

State Route 41 will close July 22 between Buttermilk Run Road and the Brown County line for a culvert replacement, and ODOT says the shutdown is expected to last for the duration of the project. The posted detour sends drivers to U.S. 52 and State Route 136 before returning to SR 41, a change that will lengthen trips for work commutes, school runs, farm traffic, deliveries and routine travel across the county line.

ODOT now estimates the SR 41 project will be finished in fall 2026. That timeline puts the route out of service for much of the season and raises the chance of back-up on the smaller two-lane roads that will absorb overflow traffic, especially for drivers moving between Adams County and Brown County.

A second project is already reshaping travel on State Route 32. ODOT says resurfacing is taking place between the Brown County line and Tranquility Pike, with traffic maintained by barrels while lane closures remain in place. The agency says that work is also expected to continue into fall 2026, and all of it is weather permitting, so rain or other bad conditions could change the schedule.

ODOT’s SR 32 project page says the resurfacing stretches farther, from the Brown County line to Burnt Cabin Road, and includes signal upgrades at two intersections. Those details matter for drivers who use SR 32 to connect West Union, Seaman and the southern edge of the county to roads beyond Adams County.

The corridor already has a safety record that ODOT is watching closely. The agency says the SR 32 and State Route 247 intersection and the SR 32 and Tranquility Pike intersection have a history of crashes. From 2019 through 2023, ODOT counted 10 crashes at Tranquility Pike and nine at SR 32 and SR 247.

That concern was reflected in a public meeting ODOT held June 23 on a planned SR 32 safety improvement project at SR 32 and SR 247. The agency proposed replacing the current signalized intersection with a Reduced Collision U-Turn design, part of a broader push to reduce crashes along the corridor.

ODOT District 9 is directing motorists to check live travel information and follow its Facebook and X accounts for current Adams County construction updates. For drivers who regularly cross the southern and eastern parts of the county, the clearest move is to build in extra time now, because both SR 41 and SR 32 are set to stay active construction zones well into fall.
