ABSS First Webmaster Dave L'Heureux Retires After Nearly 30 Years
Dave L'Heureux, ABSS's first webmaster and Help Desk legend, retired Feb. 18, 2026 after a career that supported staff "from floppy disks to Chromebooks."

Dave L'Heureux, the Alamance-Burlington Schools help-desk veteran and the district's first webmaster, retired on Feb. 18, 2026 after a multi-decade career that staff and district messages have variously described as "27 years" and "nearly 30 years." ABSS credited L'Heureux with supporting staff "from floppy disks to Chromebooks," a shorthand colleagues used to mark the sweeping technology changes he lived through.
"It all began in 1997. Furbies were flying off shelves, AOL was sending everyone free CDs in the mail, and Dave L'Heureux was just getting started on what would quietly become a legacy in ABSS," the district wrote, placing his start at the height of the 1997 consumer-tech boom and underscoring the span of his service as a local tech fixture.
At his retirement celebration, "surrounded by loved ones and co-workers who he proudly calls family," L'Heureux left a final piece of pragmatic advice that captured his hands-on approach to troubleshooting: "If something goes wrong, make sure it's plugged in, try restarting it, or check if it has paper." The gathering on Feb. 18 was part farewell and part recognition; ABSS closed its message with, "Thank you for 27 years of steady hands and a good heart, Dave. Enjoy every second of what comes next!"
Colleagues and district communications framed L'Heureux as the steady voice many staff heard on stressful days. "Have you ever called the Web Help Desk for technology support? That friendly, unhurried voice on the other end was Dave," the district noted, adding that through the "'just stopped working' moment spanning nearly three decades, Dave showed up calm, patient, and smiling." Those descriptions reflect his role as the daily human interface for classroom and administrative technology across Alamance County schools.
Looking ahead, ABSS described L'Heureux's retirement as the start of other work and pursuits: "Now a new adventure begins. Roads to travel, a guitar that has been waiting patiently in the corner, and meaningful work ahead with Habitat for Humanity," the district said, arguing that "Dave has never been the type to stop building things or supporting people." That mix of travel, music and volunteer construction frames his post-ABSS plans.
The district's messaging called L'Heureux an "ABSS Help Desk legend" and reiterated his place in ABSS history as its "first webmaster." As the schools transition technical responsibilities, the combination of his long service, the era-spanning work from 1997 through the Chromebook era, and the human notes from staff and family mark a clear institutional change for ABSS's Help Desk.
