Burlington chase ends in crash, kidnapped woman found alive inside car
Burlington police said a kidnapped woman was found alive after a 15-minute I-40 lookout led to a crash near Huffine Mill Road and the arrest of Jazmin Hayes.

A Burlington Police K-9 unit tracked down Jazmin Hayes after a pursuit that began on I-40 westbound near Exit 138, ran into Guilford County, and ended in a crash near I-840 and Huffine Mill Road, where officers found the kidnapped woman alive and unharmed inside the car.
Burlington Communications received the lookout at about 10:03 p.m. on April 8 after being told the woman had been abducted in Cary and was being threatened with a firearm. Officers spotted the vehicle about 15 minutes later near Exit 138. When they tried to stop it, Hayes allegedly refused to pull over, and the chase moved into the hands of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol as it continued across the county line.
The car crashed about 10:28 p.m. near I-840 and Huffine Mill Road in Guilford County. Hayes ran from the scene, but Burlington officers and the K-9 unit quickly caught her. Investigators said Hayes and the victim knew each other and that a verbal dispute escalated. Police also said a weapon was pointed during the encounter, including toward law enforcement, but no shots were fired.

Burlington police identified Hayes as a 36-year-old woman from Durham. She faces felony fleeing to elude, resisting, delaying or obstructing an officer, and false imprisonment charges. She was being held without bond at the Guilford County Detention Center under the Bond Integrity Act. Burlington police asked anyone with information to call 336-229-3500, and anonymous tips can also be sent through Alamance County-Wide Crime Stoppers at 336-229-7100 or the P3 Tips app.
