Mason Murphy scored a career high 29 points and Eastern Alamance turned a close start into a decisive 72 to 42 victory over visiting Southern Alamance on December 21 in Mid Carolina Conference play. The 6 foot 5 sophomore made three three pointers and finished a dominant half that put the game out of reach before intermission.
Eastern trailed 9 to 8 after one quarter, but a three pointer from Kamaal Smith and two from Hunter Eichmann helped the Eagles take control. Eastern built a 21 to 10 lead before Jasiah Allen supplied Southern s first second quarter field goal with 2 minutes 47 seconds left before halftime. Murphy then produced eight points in the last minute of the half with a three pointer, a three point play and an offensive putback to send Eastern into the locker room up 34 to 17.
"I was locked in," he said. "I try to be consistent throughout the game." Coach Parrish Walker credited the team dynamic for creating opportunities for Murphy. "They guys really buy into getting him going," Walker said. Walker also pointed to the Eagles work on the boards as a key factor. "Controlling the glass has been a big thing for us," he said. "I think we have a pretty complete team if everyone does their role."
Hunter Eichmann finished with 16 points and Christian Hester added nine for Eastern. Jasiah Allen led Southern with eight points, and the visitors struggled at the line, making 8 of 24 free throws.
