Three Arrested Hours After Armed Home Invasion, Hostage Incident on Edith Street
Three arrested after masked gunmen stabbed a hostage and robbed a home on Edith Street; Maurice Shavers and Shaundale Young remain jailed without bond.

Three Burlington men face felony charges after a midday home invasion in the 1500 block of Edith Street in which masked, armed suspects held two adults hostage, stabbed one victim, and fled in a white van that law enforcement located within hours of the attack.
Burlington police and Alamance County Sheriff's deputies arrested Shaundale William Young, Davon Jaheem Ingram, and Maurice Lamont Shavers III following a coordinated response on March 26. All three face charges of robbery with a dangerous weapon and both first- and second-degree kidnapping.
The attack unfolded at approximately 2:26 p.m. According to the Burlington Police Department, the suspects forced entry wearing masks and carrying firearms and knives, restrained two adult victims, stole cash and other property, and left one person with a stab wound requiring hospitalization. That victim was treated and released. Officers tracked the suspects to a white van matching the description from the scene, and all three were arrested at the stop by deputies from the Alamance County Sheriff's Office.
Shavers carries the most extensive charge sheet of the three defendants. Beyond the shared robbery and kidnapping counts, he faces assault with a dangerous weapon inflicting serious injury for the stabbing, felon-in-possession of a firearm, and possession of marijuana with intent to sell or deliver. Young is also charged with felon-in-possession of a firearm alongside the robbery and kidnapping allegations. Both Shavers and Young remain held without bond. Ingram, 23, was released on a $100,000 secured bond.

The case now moves to the Alamance County District Attorney's Office, which will finalize charging documents and determine whether the evidence supports additional counts. The felon-in-possession allegations against both Shavers and Young are expected to factor heavily into pretrial detention arguments at their first court appearances, and the drug-dealing charge against Shavers will draw separate prosecutorial scrutiny. Prosecutors may also examine whether any evidence recovered from the white van connects the defendants to other criminal activity in the county.
The brazenness of a three-suspect, midday home invasion on a residential street underscores the violent crime pressures Burlington faces: the city's crime rate sits higher than that of more than 91 percent of North Carolina communities.
