Western Alamance Girls Soccer Downs Eastern 4-1, Stays Atop State Rankings
Alison Thomas scored twice and assisted twice as No. 1 Western Alamance rolled past Eastern 4-1 in Mebane, with set-piece execution proving decisive in the second half.

Three second-half goals, including two converted off set pieces and a long-range strike by Kayley Lee in the final minute, lifted No. 1 Western Alamance past rival Eastern Alamance 4-1 in a Mid-Carolina Conference match played in Mebane. The reigning state champions remained undefeated and held their grip atop state rankings, while Eastern absorbed its first loss in nine games, dropping to 6-1-2.
Western drew first blood less than two minutes in on a goal credited to Scott, but the match stayed competitive through the first half. Eastern's Maddy Loranger pulled the Eagles even with a goal 2:39 before halftime, sending the teams into the break at 1-1.
The second half belonged to the Warriors. Alison Thomas drove the turnaround, finishing with two goals and two assists. Emma Gryniewski also found the net as Western converted a corner scramble and then a header off another set piece to pull away. Lee capped the scoring with a long-range strike in the closing minute, giving her a goal and an assist on the night.
Western goalkeeper Camden Markey made several critical stops during Eastern's early pressure, while Eastern's Bella Scott turned in a double-digit save performance that kept the margin from widening further before halftime.

Western coach Camden Brooks had flagged the Eastern matchup as "probably the toughest game we have on our schedule," acknowledging the team "hadn't really been challenged" in earlier contests. Brooks pointed to set-piece preparation as the decisive factor in the second half, where two corner-kick sequences produced goals.
For first-year Eastern coach Marisa Camuto, the competitive showing carried weight beyond the final score. "The girls were ready... It was intense on both sides," Camuto said.
The two programs meet again April 17 at Western Alamance.
