Albany County Fire Board Advances Equipment Plans, Seeks Water Tenders
Albany County Fire District 1 held its regular board meeting on December 17, 2025, addressing equipment purchases, policy updates, and a pending resolution on the Vedauwoo Auxiliary. The agenda set the course for 2026 budgeting and public procurement that will affect response capacity and local spending priorities.

Albany County Fire District 1 convened a regular board meeting on December 17 at the North Station, 4387 N. 3rd Street in Laramie, with an executive session at 15:30 and a public session at 17:30. Board members considered routine governance items and a slate of operational and capital decisions that will shape the district budget and emergency response capabilities in 2026.
The meeting opened with approval of minutes and routine reports from the Laramie Fire Department, County Emergency Management, dispatch and other partners. The financial report included bill approvals and set the stage for several procurement decisions. Among action items were updates and votes planned for standard operating guidelines on motor vehicle accident response, donations, and insurance claims. The board also placed a district position or resolution regarding the Vedauwoo Auxiliary on the agenda, an item with potential implications for mutual aid and volunteer resources in the districts rural areas.

A notable procurement focus was a proposed central pickup truck purchase using impact funds, identified as a PA slash RFP item. The agenda also included multiple department purchases and grant items under consideration, such as SCBA packs for firefighter safety, a station heater and replacement hoses. These equipment investments speak to capital maintenance needs and to public safety priorities that will influence operating budgets.
The agenda included a prominent public procurement notice seeking sealed proposals for two categories of firefighting water tenders, used units and new units. Sealed proposals will be accepted until December 23, 2025. The RFPs contain delivery expectations and detailed specifications for responders and vendors to meet. This ongoing solicitation presents an opportunity for local and regional vendors to compete and for the district to expand capabilities for water support on wildland and structural incidents.
The board set a 2026 meeting and budget calendar and addressed district board positions, key steps in formal governance that determine who votes on funding and policy. These decisions will directly affect response resources, procurement transparency and the allocation of impact funds. Residents and vendors with an interest in emergency services policy or contracting have an immediate window to engage through the procurement process and by attending future public sessions at the North Station.
