Ivinson Avenue street work to close parking, shift traffic next week
Parking on Ivinson Avenue between 3rd and 6th streets disappears May 18-22 as lane shifts hit downtown, while another Ivinson closure starts at the university the same day.

Downtown Laramie is about to lose parking on Ivinson Avenue between 3rd Street and 6th Street, and traffic will be squeezed through rolling lane shifts while the work is underway. The City of Laramie says the mill-and-overlay project starts Monday, May 18, and is scheduled to wrap up by Friday, May 22.
The notice, posted May 14, says parking will not be available on that stretch of Ivinson during construction. For restaurants, offices, shops, and other downtown stops, that means curbside access will tighten for the week and drivers passing through the corridor will need to expect slower movement as the lane pattern changes. Ivinson is one of the main east-west routes through the center of Laramie, so even a short closure window can ripple across the downtown block.

The city says the work is part of its 2026 Street Rehabilitation Project. An April 14 update described that program as a major rehabilitation push covering 9 lane-miles of mill and overlay, along with curb and gutter work, ADA ramps, and spot base repair. That same update listed several other streets in the citywide schedule, including S. Colorado Ave., General Brees, 4th Street, Skyline Dr., and McCue St., showing the Ivinson work is part of a broader season of paving and repair.
City records also show the downtown paving is tied to a longer engineering effort on the corridor. A May 6 council agenda item said the Ivinson Avenue Utility, Street, Storm Design project covers 6th Street to 15th Street and includes sanitary sewer, waterline, storm sewer improvements, street rehabilitation, and reconstruction. Farther east, the University of Wyoming says Ivinson Avenue between 8th Street and 15th Street will close to both traffic and parking from May 18 through Oct. 15 for reconstruction through the campus area.
Downtown Laramie’s parking rules make the timing especially important for workers and shoppers. On-street parking is posted as two-hour parking for customers, while all-day lots are set aside for employees and customers staying longer than two hours downtown. Enforcement runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, so anyone planning to spend time on Ivinson or nearby blocks will need to adjust parking plans before the work begins.
