With warmer months approaching and Laramie's municipal pools, parks, and youth programs gearing back up, the City's Parks and Recreation department posted a round of seasonal job openings last week, casting a wide net for workers across several distinct program areas.

The positions span three broad categories: temporary maintenance laborer roles focused on grounds and facilities upkeep, aquatics jobs including lifeguard and water-safety instructor positions, and recreation program specialist roles. Among the specialist openings is a post supporting the Adventure Kids after-school program, which runs Monday through Friday from 3:00 to 5:30 p.m. on all days Albany County School District No. 1 is in session, with elementary school students bused by ACSD Transportation to the Laramie Community Recreation Center at 920 Boulder Drive.

Summer camp leaders in that program work with grade-school-aged children, leading a variety of games, crafts, and activities with small groups. The positions provide experience and skill development for individuals pursuing careers in education.

Adventure Kids caps its enrollment at 36 children, making the quality and consistency of program staff a direct factor in how many Laramie families the program can serve in a given year.

On the aquatics side, the Laramie Community Recreation Center's pools offer access to pools, a hot tub, sauna and steam room, track, cardio area, weight room, and gymnasiums, with lifeguards and water-safety instructors central to keeping those facilities operational through the busy summer months.

Wages for Parks and Recreation positions have ranged from $10.48 to $13.48 per hour depending on experience and qualifications, with opportunity for advancement based on successful completion of training modules. Positions are also eligible for free credit hours at Laramie County Community College and a free membership at the recreation center.
