New Laramie Recording Studio and Local Athlete Boost Community Profile
A custom built recording studio opened just outside Laramie, bringing new music infrastructure and artist lodging to the county, while a University of Wyoming swimmer returned from the Deaflympics with a gold medal and multiple top six finishes. Both developments increase Laramie County visibility, with potential economic benefits for local businesses and added momentum for youth sports and arts programs.

Jim and Marie Roberts have completed Timber Canyon Studios at their home just outside Laramie, a purpose designed facility aimed at attracting visiting musicians to Albany County. The studio was built with careful attention to acoustics and includes a bunkhouse to accommodate visiting artists. That combination of professional recording space and on site lodging reduces barriers for touring and session musicians to work in Laramie, and positions the community as a practical stop for regional and national acts seeking a rural recording environment.
The arrival of a full service studio carries several local economic implications. Visiting artists staying in the bunkhouse will spend on groceries, fuel, restaurants, and sometimes local venues for listening sessions and shows. Small scale creative enterprises like Timber Canyon can also create part time technical work for engineers, contractors and hospitality providers, while strengthening the local music ecosystem that supports festivals, bars and independent venues. City planners and county officials can consider aligning permitting, short term rental rules and small business supports to help studios and related firms scale, which would increase lodging tax receipts and broaden the county tax base over time.
On the athletic front, University of Wyoming swimmer Collin Davis returned from the Deaflympics with strong results across multiple events. He earned gold in the 200m freestyle, finished fourth in the 100m butterfly and the 100m backstroke, fifth in the 50m backstroke and the 200m medley, and sixth in the 100m freestyle. He also competed on several relay teams. Those finishes signal depth and versatility, and they raise the profile of UW athletics and adaptive sport programs in Laramie.
Taken together, the new studio and Davis's international performance point to a broader pattern of cultural and sporting investment raising Albany County's profile. Music infrastructure can attract outside spending and build year round visitation beyond peak tourist months, while elite athletic success can boost recruitment, community pride, and youth participation in sport. For residents and policymakers, these are tangible examples of how modest local investments in arts and athletics can translate into economic and social returns.
