New Timber Canyon Studios Brings Professional Recording Capacity to Laramie
On December 9, 2025, Jim and Marie Roberts opened Timber Canyon Studios, a custom built recording facility at their home just outside Laramie. The studio, designed for optimal acoustics and equipped with an on site bunkhouse for visiting artists, could expand local music activity and draw regional performers to Albany County.

Timber Canyon Studios began operation on December 9, 2025, when Jim and Marie Roberts completed a custom built facility on their property just outside Laramie. Every element of the building was planned for superior acoustics, and the property includes an on site bunkhouse so visiting artists can stay overnight during recording sessions. The combination of professional sound design and dedicated lodging aims to reduce logistical barriers that often limit regional musicians and independent producers.
For Albany County the studio represents both a cultural amenity and a small scale economic opportunity. Local bands and University of Wyoming musicians will have a nearby option for multi day projects that previously required travel to larger markets. Visiting artists who choose to record at Timber Canyon will likely spend on food, fuel, and other services in Laramie, providing incremental revenue for restaurants, gas stations, and retail outlets. The on site bunkhouse can lower accommodation costs for out of town clients and make multi day sessions more practical, increasing the chance that projects will be scheduled here rather than in Salt Lake City or Denver.

Beyond direct spending, the studio could raise Laramie’s profile as a music destination. A well regarded recording project can attract media attention and touring artists, and create spillover demand for rehearsal spaces, live venues, and music instruction. For student musicians and recent graduates, having a nearby professional studio can shorten the path from campus projects to release quality work, which matters in a local economy where retaining young talent is an ongoing challenge.
The opening comes amid other cultural and academic highlights across the state. Recent items of note include the Rock Springs Kindness Rock Garden, University of Wyoming swimmer Collin Davis’ performance at the Deaflympics, and recognition for the UW College of Law. Timber Canyon Studios adds a private but publicly consequential resource to that mix, giving Albany County a new place for music creation and a potential modest boost to the local creative economy.
