Wyoming DOT Opens Online Review for Statewide Rail Plan Update
The Wyoming Department of Transportation launched a self guided online public meeting on December 23, 2025 to gather public input on its Statewide Rail Plan update. The meeting is open through January 31, 2026 and covers current rail operations, needs and opportunities, and a Wyoming Grade Crossing Action Plan, matters that affect safety, commerce and local travel in Albany County.

The Wyoming Department of Transportation made available a self guided online public meeting on December 23, 2025 as part of its update to the Statewide Rail Plan. The virtual meeting is open for public review and comment through January 31, 2026 and presents the plan process, a review of current rail system operations, identified needs and opportunities, and a Wyoming Grade Crossing Action Plan focused on crossing safety.
WYDOT officials say the Statewide Rail Plan will serve as a planning document to set state rail policies, priorities and strategies for both freight and passenger rail, and to position Wyoming for federal and state investment opportunities. For Albany County residents, those priorities could influence safety improvements at local crossings, maintenance scheduling, and potential access to grant funding that supports infrastructure projects and economic development.
Communities in Albany County contend with both freight movements and passenger service that use regional rail corridors, and the Grade Crossing Action Plan directly addresses safety concerns that affect drivers, pedestrians and emergency responders. Changes recommended in the Statewide Rail Plan could alter timing of maintenance work, investments at crossings near schools and commercial areas, and collaboration with rail operators on traffic management. Residents who experience delays at crossings or who rely on rail for business shipments have a direct stake in the outcomes.

WYDOT has posted the online meeting and contact information on the project website, where residents can review materials and submit comments. The announcement and meeting are available at dot.state.wy.us/news/wydot-launches-online-public-meeting-for-statewide-rail-plan. Input gathered during this period will help shape priorities that inform funding applications and project sequencing across the state.
The planning window comes as federal infrastructure programs continue to prioritize rail safety and intermodal connectivity, so local feedback may influence which Albany County projects qualify for future funding. Residents and local officials are encouraged to review the materials and submit comments before the January 31, 2026 deadline.
