Allendale County families prepare as school start dates approach

Allendale County Schools will start the 2026-2027 academic year on Aug. 6, 2026. For families juggling childcare, bus plans and supply shopping, the most important task right now is not just knowing the calendar, but lining up the campus-specific dates that come before the first bell.

What to circle on the calendar

South Carolina districts do not all open together, and the state Department of Education’s composite calendar shows start dates that can fall on July 20, Aug. 3 or Aug. 5 in the same school year cycle.

In Fairfax and the surrounding county, households with students in more than one district may be dealing with different start dates. The difference of a few days can change summer travel, work shifts and who is watching younger children while older siblings return to class.

Registration is the first deadline to handle

Allendale County Schools has been urging families to lock in enrollment before classes begin. In a May 20 Facebook message, the district told families: “REGISTER FOR BACK TO SCHOOL SIGN UP FOR THE 2026-2027 SCHOOL YEAR,” and laid out the registration path for each group.

Returning students can register in person. Families with Pre-K students can pick up packets, and new students have an online option through a QR code. The district later reinforced the message on its live feed: “If you have not already, please register your scholar for the upcoming school year! Completing registration helps our staff better prepare for student success starting day one.”

The home page carries the slogan “the comeback is real allendale county school district stay tuned.” Families who still need to follow up can go to the district office at 3249 Allendale-Fairfax Hwy in Fairfax or call 803-584-4603.

Supply costs are lower if registration is done

The district’s July 9 school supply lists added a major piece of budget relief: registered students receive free supplies and backpacks at their school’s Meet the Teacher night. For families trying to stretch a paycheck, that changes the usual August math. Instead of buying every item before the first day, parents can focus on completing registration and showing up for the school’s distribution event.

The campus dates are staggered, which is useful but also means families with children in more than one school need to plan carefully. The supply list graphic sets senior night at Allendale-Fairfax High School for July 15, grades 9-11 at AFHS for July 28, Allendale-Fairfax Middle School for Aug. 4 and Allendale-Fairfax Elementary School for Aug. 5.

Build the week around bus runs, work shifts and childcare

Even without a published route schedule in the summer posts, transportation is already part of the planning conversation. The district keeps bus information in its parent resources. Parents can settle route questions directly with the district office before the first week gets crowded with new routines.

For working parents, the real strain is the stacked calendar. A July 15 senior event, a July 28 high school event, an Aug. 4 middle school night, an Aug. 5 elementary night and an Aug. 6 first day can turn the last stretch of summer into a patchwork of handoffs. If you share custody, rely on a grandparent, or coordinate around shift work in Fairfax or elsewhere in Allendale County, those dates need to go on the same family calendar as payroll and childcare.

The district news page already carries a “FOOTBALL SEASON 2026-2027” item. Athletics, evening practices and game travel can start stacking onto the school-day schedule almost immediately.
