A GoFundMe account is now helping support the family of a 12-year-old Atchison child who remained hospitalized after a shooting on Commercial Street, turning a violent night into a fast-moving show of local support.

The fundraiser followed a shooting around 11:45 p.m. Thursday, April 16, in the 1400 block of Commercial Street. Police said multiple shots were fired at a residence where four people were on or near a porch, and the gunfire struck the child.

The injured child was first taken to Amberwell Atchison and then airlifted to a Kansas City hospital. Later updates said the child was still hospitalized, underscoring that the family’s needs extend well beyond the initial emergency response and into the costs of ongoing treatment, travel and day-to-day disruption.

Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the shooting: Blackthunder R. Dorsch, 20, of Horton; Ollie G. Horned-Eagle, 18, of Horton; and a 16-year-old juvenile male. The adults were held on attempted-murder-related allegations, and later reporting said the case included charges of attempted second-degree murder, aggravated assault, aggravated battery, criminal discharge of a firearm at an occupied dwelling and criminal damage to property.

One report said Horned-Eagle was held on a $250,000 bond, while the juvenile was taken to a juvenile detention facility. Police also said they executed search warrants, located handguns, impounded a vehicle and seized evidence as the investigation continued. Investigators said the suspects were on foot, not in a drive-by shooting.

For Atchison County, the fundraiser is now the clearest sign that the impact of the shooting is still unfolding at home, not just in the courtroom. Donations to the GoFundMe account are meant to help the family absorb the medical and practical costs that follow a child’s hospitalization, while the criminal case moves ahead separately.
