Autaugaville Lions Club Hosts Free Mobile Eye Clinic April 9

The Autaugaville Lions Club brought a free mobile eye clinic to the Extension Building in Autaugaville on Thursday, April 9, offering vision screenings, reading glasses, and information on prescription eyeglass programs to anyone who walked through the door, with registration opening at 9 a.m.

The clinic was organized by the Autaugaville Lions Club in partnership with Alabama Lions Sight, a Birmingham-based program that has conducted roughly 1,800 comprehensive vision exams and prescribed about 1,500 pairs of glasses across rural Alabama communities since launching in mid-February 2016. Autauga County government promoted the event through its official social media channels, tagging communities across the county including Billingsley, Pine Level, and Prattville.

Dr. Lindsay Snow and her professional eye care team staffed the clinic. Attendees received free vision screenings, free reading glasses, and information about upcoming comprehensive eye exams and the program's prescription eyeglass program. Organizers also outlined how the mobile clinic intended to continue serving local residents through expanded services and follow-up care, signaling that the April 9 stop was framed as the first in an ongoing series.

The Alabama Lions Sight program, directed by Kent M. Daum, OD, PhD, has served communities ranging from Ramer and Eclectic in Lowndes County to Marion, Selma, and multiple Black Belt communities. Its patient populations frequently include uninsured residents who have gone years without an eye exam, as well as older patients managing diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and cataracts requiring surgical referral.

No appointment was required. A commenter on the Autauga County Facebook post confirmed the clinic operated on a walk-in basis, with registration beginning at 9 a.m.
