Ducky, family-friendly rescue dog, hopes for new home in Elmore County
Ducky came back to the Humane Society of Elmore County after a painful change in his owner’s life, and the 45-pound Lab mix is ready for a family.

Ducky came back to the Humane Society of Elmore County after being adopted and deeply loved, then returned through no fault of his own when his owner’s life changed in a sad way. The male Lab-looking mix was about 1 year old as of late February and weighed 45 pounds, giving him the kind of home experience that can make a new placement smoother for the right family.
His temperament is the reason the shelter is putting him front and center. Ducky is reported to be good with children, dogs and cats, a rare combination that makes him especially appealing to households that already have a full routine, other pets or both. He first came to the shelter as a stray, then moved into a home before ending up back in care, so he is not starting from scratch as a kennel-only dog. What he needs now is a family ready to love and spoil him for good.

The Humane Society of Elmore County handles adoptions by application and appointment, with adoption hours Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The shelter is closed Sundays and major holidays. Applicants are generally contacted within 24 hours after submitting an application, though approval is not guaranteed and depends on shelter staff and the executive director.
Adoption fees are $100 for dogs and puppies and $50 for cats and kittens 1 year old and under. Cats over 1 year old may be adopted by approved adopters for a fee of their choosing. The fee includes mandatory spay or neuter, basic immunizations, de-worming, microchip, heartworm check for dogs, rabies vaccination if old enough and a free health exam with a participating veterinarian.

The Humane Society of Elmore County is at 255 Central Plank Road, Highway 9, in Wetumpka, Alabama 36092. The shelter can be reached at (334) 567-3377 or hselco@bellsouth.net. With intake staying high and owner surrenders, litters of kittens and puppies adding pressure on available space, Ducky’s return offers a simple second chance and a ready-made fit for the right home.
