Large German Shepherd Needs Experienced Handler, Home With Space
A 5 year old male King German Shepherd named Reom was surrendered to Prattville Autauga Humane Society on December 22, after his owner reported he was too rough with children. The shelter says Reom is house trained and leash trained, but because he weighs 96 pounds and does not get along with all dogs, he will need an experienced adopter, a large fenced yard, and no small children in the home.

Prattville Autauga Humane Society took in Reom, a 5 year old neutered male King German Shepherd, on December 22 after his family turned him in for being too rough with the children. Reom displays the classic black and tan coat of his breed and tips the scales at 96 pounds, making him an extra large adult dog. Shelter staff describe him as extremely intelligent, well behaved, and strong on leash, and they note that he is both house trained and leash trained.
Because of his size and temperament, the shelter advises that Reom should not be placed in a home with small or young children. Prospective adopters who already own a dog are asked to schedule a meet and greet, since Reom does not get along with all dogs. The shelter emphasizes that any adopter should be familiar with the German Shepherd breed and prepared to provide ample exercise, consistent handling, and a big fenced yard.
Adoption fees at Prattville Autauga Humane Society are set at one hundred twenty dollars for dogs and seventy five dollars for cats. All pets will be spayed or neutered before adoption or adopters will receive a discount spay or neuter certificate valid at participating veterinary clinics. Adoption fees cover a microchip and microchip registration, deworming, vaccinations as required by age and law, and a courtesy veterinary exam at participating offices. Unless otherwise listed as having special needs, the shelter reports dogs have screened heartworm negative.
For residents interested in Reom or other adoptable pets, the shelter is open from eleven to four Monday through Saturday. The facility is located at 1009 Reuben Road in Prattville. Rehoming larger, strong breeds like Reom highlights the practical and financial considerations facing local households. Adoption fees that include microchipping and initial veterinary care reduce upfront costs for new owners, while the shelter provided spay and neuter support aims to limit future intake pressure on county animal services. Matching a dog with the right household remains essential to reduce returns and ensure public safety, and Reom's case underlines the importance of experience and space when adopting a large working breed.
