Prattville Mardi Gras Parade and Celebration Returns Feb. 14 After Postponement
Prattville's Mardi Gras celebration moved to Feb. 14 after a cold-weather postponement; vendors open at 10 a.m. and a downtown parade starts at noon.

Prattville’s annual Mardi Gras Celebration returns Saturday with food and specialty vendors, children’s activities and a downtown parade after officials postponed the event from Jan. 31 because of unusually cold temperatures. Vendors and family programming open at 10:00 a.m. and the parade is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m., with the broader celebration running until 2:00 p.m.
City listings indicate there will be two vendor areas to offer food, arts and crafts and other specialty items prior to the parade. Organizers have not released a detailed parade route; the event listing states the parade route is TBA. For parade participation or additional information residents are directed to the Special Events office at 334-595-0850. Prattville City Hall is located at 101 West Main Street, Prattville, AL 36067.
The postponement shifted the event by two weeks and reflects the operational challenges small cities face when weather disrupts planned public programming. The rescheduling preserved the vendor hours and parade start time but left several logistics unresolved in public-facing materials. The city’s Cultural Arts Center has been engaged in promotion and local reporting noted that a local reporter sat down with Mynecia Steele of the Cultural Arts Center for additional detail.
The timing and format have implications for downtown traffic, parking and business patterns. A concentrated vendor footprint from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and a noon parade will likely increase foot traffic on Main Street and adjacent blocks, creating a potential boost for restaurants and retail in Historic Prattville while also requiring coordinated traffic management and public safety presence. Residents and downtown employees should plan for higher pedestrian volumes and possible temporary street impacts until the city posts a route and closure schedule.
Regional context places Prattville’s event alongside other area Mardi Gras activities; a separate downtown Montgomery celebration is scheduled for later the same day with evening entertainment and specialty performers. Prattville’s program, by contrast, centers on vendor areas and a family-friendly parade without public listings of stilt walkers, fire performers or scheduled musical acts.
The city has not yet published vendor maps, a list of participating groups, estimated attendance figures or detailed traffic plans. Contact the Special Events office at 334-595-0850 for the parade route, street-closure times, vendor information and media access. Expect further updates from the city and local outlets as organizers finalize logistics; residents should allow extra time for travel through downtown and monitor official channels for any last-minute changes.
