Baker Boys Wrestling Takes Second at State, Crowns Two Champions
Cooper Bain and Bruin Bloomer won state titles as Baker's middle school boys finished second at West Albany High School.

Baker County's middle school boys wrestling team earned a second-place finish at the Oregon Middle School State Wrestling Championships, held March 13-14 at West Albany High School, with Cooper Bain and Bruin Bloomer each climbing to the top of the podium as individual state champions.
Bain claimed the title at 150 pounds and Bloomer won at 140 pounds, giving Baker two champions across the two-day tournament. Both wrestlers advanced through a field that drew hundreds of qualifiers who earned their spots at regional tournaments earlier in the season.
Two other Baker wrestlers also placed. Romyn Myer finished third at 110 pounds, and his teammate Wyatt Hansen took fifth in the same weight class, meaning all four of Baker's individual place-finishers competed at 110, 140, or 150 pounds.

Beyond the four who placed, Baker sent a larger contingent to West Albany that included boys and girls who either competed at the state tournament or qualified through district results. Mason Shank, Justice Williams, Thomas Lynch, Weston Anderson, Molly Knapp, Samuel Tudor, Braylen Mayo, Waylon Gregg, Traxton Tanzey and Isabella Moyes were among the additional state qualifiers representing Baker County.
The team's runner-up finish places Baker among the top programs in Oregon middle school wrestling. The first-place team in the 2026 boys standings was not reported, but previous years have seen programs such as Crook County and Cascade contend at the top of the team standings, underscoring the level of competition Baker's wrestlers navigated to finish second statewide.
