Baltimore lands 2027 Kappa Alpha Psi Grand Chapter meeting

Baltimore will host the 88th Kappa Alpha Psi Grand Chapter Meeting at the Baltimore Convention Center from July 6 to 11, 2027, bringing an expected 20,000 attendees and guests downtown. The return marks the fraternity’s first Grand Chapter Meeting in the city since 1968, giving the week-long gathering both a homecoming feel and a clear economic upside for the Inner Harbor corridor.

The convention is expected to send spending through Baltimore’s hotels, restaurants, museums and transportation network. Local leaders tied to the announcement included Baltimore Maryland Alumni Chapter polemarch Devron D. Dickens, Visit Baltimore president and CEO Kireem Swinton, Maryland Sen. Antonio Hayes and Kappa Alpha Psi Grand Polemarch Jimmy McMikle, all of whom framed the meeting as more than a ceremonial stop. For a city still trying to widen its convention pipeline, a gathering of this size means room nights, meals and foot traffic that can reach well beyond the convention center doors.

Kappa Alpha Psi describes the Grand Chapter Meeting as its national legislative body, where brothers gather for fellowship, fraternal business and celebration of the fraternity’s legacy. The organization says it has more than 150,000 members and about 700 undergraduate and alumni chapters, with international chapters in the United Kingdom, Germany, Korea, Japan, the Caribbean, Nigeria, Bermuda, Canada, Dubai, the Dominican Republic, South Africa and the U.S. Virgin Islands. That reach gives Baltimore access to a visitor base that extends far beyond Maryland and turns the 2027 meeting into a marketing event for the city itself.

The fraternity’s Baltimore landing also carries symbolic weight. Local leaders have pointed to the city’s history in the Civil Rights Movement and to the work of young people who have been supported by Kappa Alpha Psi members in Baltimore. A Kappa Alpha Psi press release says Laurel Wreath awards will be conferred during the 88th Grand Chapter Meeting, adding another high-profile element to the week in Baltimore.

For downtown businesses, the calendar date matters now because the spending wave will not wait until 2027 to start building. Convention planners, hotel operators and restaurant owners will be watching the same signal: whether Baltimore can turn a major Black fraternity gathering into a citywide boost that reaches the convention center, the Inner Harbor and the institutions that depend on visitor traffic.
