Cyclist killed in Dundalk hit-and-run, police seek driver

Baltimore County police are looking for the driver who struck a cyclist near Merritt Boulevard and North Point Road in Dundalk and fled before the rider died at a nearby hospital.

Police said the crash happened around 2 a.m. on July 25 in Baltimore County, in the area of one of Dundalk’s busiest commercial stretches. In a later post, investigators said the cyclist was taken to a nearby hospital and was later pronounced dead. The department said the investigation was still ongoing.

A social post shared by WBAL and FOX Baltimore identified the victim as a 19-year-old man. Police have not said in the information released so far whether the driver or vehicle has been found.

The intersection sits in Precinct 12-Dundalk, where Merritt Boulevard and North Point Road carry steady traffic through a part of the county many Baltimore-area riders know for its mix of businesses, turning vehicles and fast-moving through traffic. The fatal crash adds another name to the long list of riders hurt or killed when drivers leave the scene after a collision.

For cyclists in Baltimore City, the Dundalk case lands close to home. Riders routinely share arterial roads with cars, trucks and buses on corridors that connect neighborhoods to shopping strips and industrial areas, where a single driver’s decision to flee can turn a crash into a deadlier event and make accountability harder to secure.
