Ravens expected to hire Eddie Faulkner as running backs coach
NFL Network reporter Tom Pelissero says Eddie Faulkner is expected to become the Ravens' running backs coach, a move that could shape Baltimore's powerful running game.

Eddie Faulkner is expected to leave the Pittsburgh coaching staff and take over as running backs coach for the Baltimore Ravens, a hire that would connect a proven developer of backs to one of the league's most efficient ground attacks. NFL Network reporter Tom Pelissero tweeted, "After seven years with the Steelers, running back coach Eddie Faulkner is expected to take the same job with the AFC North rival Ravens."
Faulkner, 48, brings a résumé that includes playing at Wisconsin from 1996 to 2000 and a brief stint as an undrafted running back with the Steelers in 2001. He has substantial coaching experience at both the college and NFL levels, with stops at Ball State, Northern Illinois, Pitt, Wisconsin, and NC State before joining Pittsburgh as running backs coach in 2019. Faulkner also served as the Steelers' interim offensive coordinator in 2023 after Matt Canada was fired.
Baltimore will be acquiring a coach credited with developing high-performing backs. Najee Harris became the first Steeler to post four straight 1,000-yard seasons to begin his career while working under Faulkner. Jaylen Warren went from undrafted free agent to starter, finishing with 958 rushing yards and eight total touchdowns in 2025. Kenneth Gainwell posted 1,023 offensive yards in 2025, including 486 receiving yards, and was voted the Steelers' 2025 Most Valuable Player by his teammates. Those development outcomes are a key reason the hire is being heralded locally; BaltimoreRavens editorial content noted, "There was a reason they made him interim OC a couple years ago after Canada’s firing. Guys listened to him and wanted to play for him."
The fit in Charm City has clear connective tissue. New Ravens head coach Jesse Minter and first-year offensive coordinator Declan Doyle will oversee a backfield that includes Derrick Henry, Keaton Mitchell, Rasheen Ali, and Justice Hill. Henry finished last season with the second-most rushing yards in the league at 1,595, and the Ravens led the NFL with 5.3 yards per carry. Faulkner also reunites him with offensive line coach Dwayne Ledford; Ledford and Faulkner coached together for three years at NC State. That earlier partnership drew notice on social media, with analyst Alex Kozora tweeting, "Hope Eddie Faulkner (who worked with Ledford at NC State) doesn't follow him to Baltimore!"

Pittsburgh has already moved to fill the vacancy. With Mike McCarthy taking over as head coach in Pittsburgh, Ramon Chinyoung was brought in as the Steelers' new running backs coach. The swap underscores the churn in coaching staffs across the AFC North and the competitive dynamics between division rivals.
What comes next for Ravens fans is official confirmation and how Faulkner's coaching methods translate to Baltimore's roster in spring drills and training camp. If expectations hold, Faulkner's arrival could fine-tune an already efficient rushing attack and accelerate development for secondary backs, with measurable effects on play-calling, snap distribution, and ultimately, wins in the AFC North.
