Sound Garden Owner Opens Retro Music Bar Wonderland in Fells Point
Sound Garden's Bryan Burkert, a Fells Point institution since 1993, opened Wonderland this weekend: a retro two-story bar where the lights pulse with the music.

Bryan Burkert has spent 33 years building Sound Garden into one of Fells Point's defining institutions. This past weekend, he opened a second act: Wonderland, a two-story bar on Aliceanna Street where the lighting pulses with the music and the walls recall the golden age of vinyl.
The first floor debuted the weekend of April 3, with the upstairs portion of the space set to follow in the coming months. The interior draws from a late-1960s and 1970s aesthetic, combining bubble mirrors, vibrant wallpaper, and club-level lighting rigs synced to both music and video. The design is intentional: sound and visuals are built into the experience from the floor up, not layered onto a standard bar layout.
Burkert has run Sound Garden since 1993 and is one of the more recognized figures in Baltimore's record collector and music retail community. The store has long been woven into Fells Point's identity as a neighborhood where music culture and independent retail have coexisted through decades of change. Wonderland extends that identity into hospitality, built around curated playlists and bar service, with programming planned around record releases, listening parties, and cross-promotions with local record fairs and collectors' events.
The concept follows a pattern visible across Fells Point and other Baltimore neighborhoods, where operators with deep roots in a single trade convert that cultural credibility into small-scale hospitality ventures built around taste rather than volume. Local business owners and residents have responded with cautious optimism, viewing a music-driven bar run by a longtime local operator as more likely to complement the neighborhood's character than compete with it.
The opening is expected to increase evening foot traffic along Aliceanna Street and nearby blocks. With the second floor still to come, Wonderland's full footprint in the neighborhood is still taking shape.
