Bamberg County Council Honors Carrie Burgess Eaddy on Her 100th Birthday
Bamberg County Council honored Carrie Burgess Eaddy, born Dec. 27, 1925, with a centennial resolution. She is the only surviving sibling among 17 brothers and sisters.

Carrie Burgess Eaddy turned 100 years old on December 27, 2025, and on March 10, Bamberg County Council made it official: District 4 Councilman Spencer Donaldson sponsored a resolution before the full council to commemorate her centennial milestone and honor what the county called her "lifelong example of faith, perseverance, and dedication to family."
Eaddy was born to the late Richard and Viola Blow Burgess on the Large Burgess Farm in rural Williamsburg County near Hemingway, South Carolina. She is the only surviving sibling among 17 brothers and sisters, a family rooted in the land and shaped, as the county's biographical record notes, by a Christian household where hard work, responsibility, and faith were foundational values.
The resolution marked not just a personal milestone but a public acknowledgment from county government of a life lived entirely within the arc of the 20th century and into the 21st. Donaldson and the full council extended their "sincere appreciation to the family of Mrs. Eaddy and join them in acknowledging a life distinguished by service, perseverance, and devotion."

The March 10 meeting also saw the council present a separate resolution honoring Lena R. Ford Sherman of Bamberg on her 101st birthday, sponsored by District 3 Councilman Larry Haynes. Sherman, born January 1, 1925, is the grandmother of 38, great-grandmother of 40, and great-great-grandmother of 42. The back-to-back recognitions in a single council session for two women both born in 1925 was a rare moment for the county.
Bamberg County Administration issued the formal press release on the Eaddy resolution on March 23, 2026. Residents seeking additional information or wishing to request the full resolution text can contact the county at info@bambergcounty.sc.gov or visit the Bamberg County Courthouse Annex at the Isaiah Odom Building, 1234 North Street, Bamberg, SC 29003.
