Bamberg County Council Seats Draw Multiple Candidates in Upcoming Elections
Four Bamberg County Council districts drew multiple candidates for the November 5, 2024 general election, part of a contested local ballot that also included races for sheriff, coroner, and five school board seats.

Four Bamberg County Council districts drew multiple candidates for the November 5, 2024 general election, part of a wave of contested local races across the Lowcountry that extended to neighboring Orangeburg and Calhoun counties.
Council seats in Districts 1, 4, 5, and 7 all appeared on the November 5 ballot. The Times and Democrat, which serves the tri-county area, reported that local government races were drawing multiple candidates, signaling competitive contests up and down the ticket.
Beyond the council, voters faced choices in seven additional county-level offices on the same day: Clerk of Court, Coroner, Probate Court, Sheriff, and the Soil and Water Conservation District Board At-large seat. The Coroner's race followed a distinct path, surfacing first on the June 11, 2024 primary ballot before advancing to the November general.
The November 5 ballot also carried five Bamberg County School District school board seats: the At-large District 8 position and district seats covering Districts 1, 4, 5, and 7. Voters in the judicial circuit weighed in on the South Carolina 2nd Judicial Circuit Solicitor's race that same day, rounding out one of the more expansive local ballots in recent memory for the county.
The competitive environment was not unique to Bamberg. The Times and Democrat reported that council races in Orangeburg and Calhoun counties similarly drew multiple candidates, reflecting a region-wide surge in local civic engagement during the 2024 election cycle.
