Bamberg County Democrats to Hold Annual Convention in Denmark March 14

Bamberg County Democrats held their annual county convention Saturday morning at the party's headquarters at 4857 Carolina Highway in Denmark, with the two-hour gathering running from 10 a.m. to noon EDT.

The convention served twin purposes central to how the South Carolina Democratic Party structures its grassroots organization: electing county party leaders and selecting delegates who will represent Bamberg County at the state convention. The South Carolina Democratic Party describes the county convention as "the best way to get involved with the Democratic Party," noting that "county conventions elect delegates to the state convention."

Participation was open broadly, with the party's standing invitation extending to any registered Democrat in the county. "All Democrats who are registered voters are welcome to participate," the event listing stated, echoing the South Carolina Democratic Party's own language that "any Democrat who is a registered voter may participate in their county convention."

Bamberg County's convention fell on one of the busiest days on the statewide Democratic calendar. Across South Carolina on the same Saturday, Democrats in Anderson, Allendale, Abbeville, Pickens, and Sumter counties also convened, with Sumter holding its gathering at the county's Judicial Center on North Harvin Street and Anderson meeting at the Westside Community Center on West Franklin Street. Neighboring Barnwell County is scheduled to follow on March 21 at the Barnwell Community Activities Center on Calhoun Street.

The Bamberg County Democratic Party headquarters on Carolina Highway has served as the organizing hub for local party activity in Denmark, the small Bamberg County seat that sits along the South Carolina Lowcountry. The South Carolina Democratic Party's website listed the convention on its statewide county convention calendar and offered pre-registration through the party's site ahead of the event.
