Bamberg County gives jurors clear same-day reporting instructions for Tuesday hearing
Bamberg County jurors summoned for Tuesday were told to report at 1:30 p.m. at the second-floor courtroom, leaving no guesswork about whether to come in.

Bamberg County gave summoned jurors a clear same-day instruction Tuesday: report at 1:30 p.m. to the second-floor courtroom as previously directed. The notice removed the uncertainty that often comes with jury duty and gave residents a specific time and place to appear.
The county’s juror-information page says potential jurors are drawn at random by computer from voter registration cards, South Carolina driver’s licenses, and state-issued ID cards. Those selected are notified by mail, and the county asks them to return the response form in the envelope provided by the court. Jurors with questions were directed to call the clerk’s office at 803-245-3025.
The reporting instructions also included basic courtroom logistics. Jurors were told to report to the appropriate courtroom and dress appropriately, with no tank tops or shorts. In a county where even a single absent juror can slow down a trial or hearing, that kind of detail helps reduce confusion, wasted travel and no-shows.
Bamberg County has had to manage those court duties from more than one public building while work continues at the historic courthouse. Since July 1, 2022, all Family and Circuit Courts have been held at the Bamberg Civic Center, 2477 Main Highway, until renovations on the historic courthouse are completed. County council meetings have been held at the Courthouse Annex, the Isaiah Odom Building, at 1234 North Street, and county project pages say the annex construction has been completed.

The county’s handling of jury notices has reflected how much public business now depends on timely updates. On March 17, 2026, Bamberg County posted an alert telling summoned jurors they did not need to report because the jury had been cancelled. Tuesday’s notice went the other direction, using the county home page to make sure jurors knew they were expected to appear.
South Carolina Judicial Branch guidance describes jury service as one of the cornerstones of the judicial process and directs jurors to report to the courtroom or juror room as instructed. That civic role carries extra weight in Bamberg County, a jurisdiction of about 395 square miles that was established in 1897 after being partitioned from Barnwell County and named for William Seaborn Bamberg and other members of the Bamberg family.
The same courthouse strain that has pushed court functions into the civic center and the Isaiah Odom Building also gives extra importance to a simple jury notice. For Bamberg County, clear reporting instructions are not just administrative housekeeping. They are part of keeping criminal and civil matters moving while the county waits for its courthouse work to be fully resolved.
