State Rep. Justin Bamberg Files for Re-Election to House District 90

Fresh off a roughly 3,500-vote victory over Republican challenger Herbert Dixon in November, State Rep. Justin Bamberg announced on March 16, 2026 that he is seeking re-election to the South Carolina House of Representatives' District 90, the seat he has held since first being elected in 2014.

Bamberg, a Democrat and attorney at Bamberg Legal, LLC, said he is running on ideologies centered around serving the people of District 90, which covers portions of Bamberg, Colleton, Dorchester, and Orangeburg counties. The South Carolina Legislature's official directory also lists Barnwell County among the district's constituents.

The 39-year-old Bamberg was born and raised in Bamberg, South Carolina, and earned both his bachelor's degree and law degree from the University of South Carolina, finishing his J.D. in 2011. He succeeded Bakari Sellers, who vacated the District 90 seat in 2014 to run for Lieutenant Governor. Bamberg won that initial race by a margin of just over one percent, defeating Republican Travis Lee Avant, and has grown his margins since. In the 2016 general election, he captured 54.53 percent of the vote, collecting 7,945 votes to Republican Dan Lawrence's 6,624 across a total of 14,569 ballots cast.

His current term ends November 9, 2026, and the South Carolina Legislature's directory lists 2026 as his next election. In Columbia, Bamberg serves on the House Judiciary Committee and its Subcommittee on Constitutional Laws, working out of Room 335-C in the Blatt Building. His district office is located at 104 Bridge Street in Bamberg.
