29th Annual Lumberjack Bonspiel Set for March 28 at Bemidji Curling Club

The Bemidji Curling Club will host the 29th annual Lumberjack Bonspiel on Saturday, March 28, with the first draw sliding off at 8 a.m. and play running through 10 p.m. Sponsored by First National Bank Bemidji, the tournament doubles as a community fundraiser with a stated goal of raising $30,000 for Bemidji High School activities through the Lumberjack Foundation Fund, a component fund of the Northwest Minnesota Foundation.

Registration is open now for both individuals and four-person teams. Individual entry costs $110. Teams that pre-pay before March 18 pay $400; after that deadline the team fee rises to $450. A portion of registration fees is tax-deductible and will be receipted by the Northwest Minnesota Foundation.

BHS activities director Kristen McRae and former activities director Troy Hendricks appeared on KBUN's "High Noon" program on Tuesday, March 10, to preview the event and walk listeners through the sign-up process. They also explained how proceeds flow back to BHS activities programs through the Lumberjack Foundation fund.

The Lumberjack Bonspiel caps a busy spring stretch on the Bemidji Curling Club's bonspiel calendar, which this season also included the Curling Rocks Junior Bonspiel in February, the Minnesota MCA High School Championship in late February and early March, and the Paul Bunyan Open Cash Bonspiel running March 13-15.
